Student assistant (m/w) for programing robots with ROS/Beckhoff

The Chair of Building Realization and Robotics at TUM collaborates in various EU Horizon2020 projects in the field of application of Robotics and Automation in Building Construction and Refurbishment. The chair is involved in a Horizon2020 project named HEPHAESTUS, which focus on highly risked and critical construction tasks such as prefab wall installation. In that sense, the HEPHAESTUS has been conceived as a solution for accomplishing multiple tasks on vertical or inclined planes of the built and outdoor environment. For that purpose, the HEPHAESTUS is mainly based on a cable-driven robot and a modular end effector kit. This modular kit can hosts several tools and devices and therefore we can say it is multifunctional.
In order to strengthen our team at TUM we are looking for student assistant (Hiwi / Wihi):

Profile:

  • Student from the field of Mechanical Engineering, or Informatics, or Mechatronics, or Production or similar disciplines

Major duties and responsibilities:

  • Programing of robots with the software Robot Operating System (ROS) depending on a script generated in a computational design software – advanced skills
  • Assisting the scientific coordinators team

Essential skills and experience required:

  • Programming skills in C++ and Python
  • Experienced in Robotic Operating System (ROS)
  • Experience in Beckhoff TwinCAT
  • Fluent written and spoken English skills, German would be an advantage
  • Good team player
  • Strong motivation to learn the handling with different software applications such as e.g. parametric design
