Construction Robotics Laboratory

Prof. Bock is involved in more than 10 flexible prefabrication systems, 50 individual construction robot systems, 30 automated building construction and deconstruction (urban mining) sites, predominantly in Japan, Singapore, USA, France, Germany, Netherlands and Scandinavia. Since 1990, a multitude of automated high-rise sites have been operated by various Japanese companies in Asia. .Also in European construction firms flexible site-automation systems have adopted nowadays.

Most of these achievements were obtained by highly experimental research approaches. Therefore the Construction Robotics Laboratory and the Teleconstruction Site in Garching are designed as an experimenting laboratory, i.e. an "Incubator". Incubators are used in innovation science and the R&D-industry to specifically generate inventions or to systemize the invention process. In the Construction Robotics Laboratory students and researchers can experiment with robotic systems and mechatronics in the field of building production and Ambient Assisted Living (AAL). The Construction Robotics Laboratory provides a fully equipped mechatronics workshop and supervision by the Chair staff. While in many projects simple design models are having priority, in the Construction Robotics Laboratory more complex functional demonstrators or experimental superstructures are implemented. The scale of the implementation is task-related. The Construction Robotics Laboratory imparts basics of the systematic development of demonstrators.

The "One to One scale" robotically fabricated components can be further verified on the Teleconstruction Site thus closing the research and development value chain. Recently, a Korean Post Doc researcher, developed at the Construction Robotics Laboratory technologies which are now in use by Samsung Construction. In 2011, Korea's first automated construction site adopted, under the supervision of the Chair for Building Realization and Robotics, the chair's concept of Robot Oriented Design. Due to foreign student apartment shortage 50 temporary "habitec" units will be installed on the teleconstruction site for our chairs masterstudents by "ROD"(Robot Oriented Design) and "DCD"(Demografic Change Design) rules as ambient assisted living site.

Advisors along with our workshop technicians, provide their support to the students, concerning the realization of given or personal projects.
